Irrigation Systems:

Irrigation systems are a breeding ground for E.coli. When plumbing lines are clean of scale and bioslimes, chances for a healthy growing environment increase.  Most problems in the field start at the water source (well or canal) and if not addressed, an outbreak could go from bad to worse. Here at Agri Ionization Systems we are in constant contact with our customers who update us with new potential problems they see in the field.

A proven solution to E-coli, Salmonella and organic contaminants in farm products.

By the nature of their growing environment, field and plant processing, leafy farm products are susceptible to e-coli and other organic food contaminants.

The positive log reduction effects of using copper ionized treated water, in the field and in processing, is well established and well documented.
Agri-Ionization Systems, Inc. is the leader in this technology and the provider of equipment specifically built to solve your contamination problem.

Step one:
Water treated with Copper ionization, is well established in the technical literature to reduce E-coli and other organic contaminants.
These contaminants are found in well water, canals and storage tanks. The first line of attack: The ability to stop the growth in irrigation lines (bioslimes) and cleaning the canals and well water with copper ions (that kill these contaminants) has an accumulated effect with time and can give an even greater log reduction of contamination.

Step two:
The second line of defense: Field sprayers, are equipped to ionize the slurry mix with positive- charged copper ions that are attracted to the negatively charged plants. The treated water is attracted to the plants, it bonds to negative sites, then it kills the contaminants.

Step three:
The third and final line of defense: The leafy products are taken to the packing house or
field harvesters where they are again washed with copper- ionized water. Adding a very small amount of an oxidizer will reduce equipment corrosion and achieve an even higher log reduction of the contamination at the final location.

SANDERS LABORATORIES - E. COLI

The following is a summary of the tests we have completed for your company.

Purpose of Study
Outbreaks of human disease associated with the consumption of raw fruits and vegetables have increased over the past decade. Fruits and vegetable can become contaminated with microorganisms capable of causing human disease while still on the plant in the fields or orchards, during harvesting, transport, processing and distribution. Therefore we test the Superior Aqua Agricultural System ability to reduce microorganisms on raw fruits and vegetables.

Results
Samples of scallions from a farm were tested for E. coli bacteria. The scallions had greater than 600,000 colonies. The Superior Aqua Agricultural System was installed on a recirculated tank. The copper level was raised to 1mg/L. The scallions were introduced into the tank. The scallions were removed and were tested for E. coli bacteria. There were less than 100 colonies.

Conclusion
The Superior Aqua Agricultural System achieved a 3.5 log reduction of microorganisms on the scallions. The use of chlorine in conjunction with the Superior Aqua Agricultural System will achieve additional reduction of microorganisms.

Sincerely,

Debra A. Sanders
Laboratory Director
